Loothemow : I have never had a credit card before but I don't have anything else in my name now that my truck is paid off. I want to continue to establish good credit but confused on how a credit card works. Is it better to spend a certain limit a month and pay it off right away with no interest? Ooorrr... Use it a ton right away and slowly pay it off??

Jeniferxfs, : To keep a good credit score, you should always carry less than a 50% balance on a credit card, make all payments on time if not early, and pay more than the minimum amount due.
"Use it a ton right away" is not a good idea.

lolowsNem : All you have to do is pay your bill on time to keep good credit. It doesn't matter how much you spend (not with normal cards, anyway). It's better for you to pay it off each time you're billed, without interest. You'll save money that way.

It helps if you only spend little amounts on your card. Companies look at how much credit you have available vs. how much you've used in order to determine your score. Your score will be much higher if you have a large available balance, and lower if you've maxed out your card. I forget all the terms, but I hope that made sense.

Tedwoodosen : CC are great for credit try never use more then 30% of limit 50% max. Pay in full every month builds your credit no cost :)

maxussynk : Just use your credit card on things you would normally buy (don't over spend your budget or your credit limit). Then pay the entire balance off when you get your statement. Do this every month on the same day.

hbbkjeqy : There is no advantage to carrying balances. It just costs you interest. The best way to handle any credit card is to use it for regular purchases, wait for the statement, and pay the balance in full every month. This builds credit and avoids interest.

Also, don't worry about only spending a certain percentage (10$, 20%, 30%, 50% -- depending on what "credit expert" site). It is true that utilization counts in your FICO score, but it is not worth all the effort to figure out exactly when the card updates to each credit bureau and then schedule charges and payments to get that perfect utiization rate ... what ever it may be. If you just use the card and pay the balance in full every month, it won't make any difference how much of your limit you use. It will all even out in the end.
