bertiefeleciau : "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.”
Yes, the Messiah himself.

Obama just proves himself that he is a failure.
Again, was the RATs party of NO in Bush Years?!

the "Never my fault" Rats are shameless.
The RATS voted for everything and then accused GOP for lying to them.

Again, the RATS are 100% shameless.

vavaf : That would sound like Obama. One of the few times he was right. Of course now he wants the ceiling raised, but give the dummy his due, he was right once.

weesiuddy : The debt was decreasing (the government was running a surplus) when Bush took office-- having the debt increase was a failure. It means Bush turned a surplus into a deficit. When Obama took office the deficit was the same as it is now. That is not a failure.

Poluza : True, but defaulting on our credit right now would be a horrendous mistake. You do realize we were in a much, much better spot economically in 2006, right? Should we fail to raise the debt ceiling right now, we would send our economy and the world's economy into a tailspin not seen since the Great Depression.

In 2006, Obama was referring to Bush's lack of vision and leadership. He was handed a surplus, turned it into a giant deficit through pointless tax cuts for the rich and two horrendously handled wars. It's a shame we would ever have to vote to raise the debt ceiling. But, we have to now. The debt is largely due to Bush or the actions the Obama administration has had to take in the wake of the Bush presidency.

This also shows the hypocrisy of the GOP. They were more than willing to give Bush all the money he wanted, regardless if we could afford it or not, not to mention unparalleled executive power.

The GOP is absolutely shameless.

Any Democrats or Republicans who voted to raise it back then were irresponsible and aiding an incompetent administration add to an enormous and soaring deficit. I would say the same now, but defaulting would be a terrible, terrible mistake and make our economy morph into what it was during the Great Depression. So any Democrats or Republicans who voted against raising the debt ceiling now are irresponsible and only in it to make Obama look bad or to cover their own bases.
