True, but defaulting on our credit right now would be a horrendous mistake. You do realize we were in a much, much better spot economically in 2006, right? Should we fail to raise the debt ceiling right now, we would send our economy and the world's economy into a tailspin not seen since the Great Depression.
In 2006, Obama was referring to Bush's lack of vision and leadership. He was handed a surplus, turned it into a giant deficit through pointless tax cuts for the rich and two horrendously handled wars. It's a shame we would ever have to vote to raise the debt ceiling. But, we have to now. The debt is largely due to Bush or the actions the Obama administration has had to take in the wake of the Bush presidency.
This also shows the hypocrisy of the GOP. They were more than willing to give Bush all the money he wanted, regardless if we could afford it or not, not to mention unparalleled executive power.
The GOP is absolutely shameless.
Any Democrats or Republicans who voted to raise it back then were irresponsible and aiding an incompetent administration add to an enormous and soaring deficit. I would say the same now, but defaulting would be a terrible, terrible mistake and make our economy morph into what it was during the Great Depression. So any Democrats or Republicans who voted against raising the debt ceiling now are irresponsible and only in it to make Obama look bad or to cover their own bases.
